Prospective Students/Post-Doctors

I will be recruiting 1-3 student(s)/post-doc(s) every year. I am looking for self-motivated students who have a strong mathematical background. Having good oral and written communication skills in English is a big plus. You must have something spectacular to join my research group. Having a perfect GPA is not enough. If you are interested in my research group and would like to work with me, please send me an email.

Please kindly note that I am not interested in (just) fancy applications like iPhone/iPad softwares. I’d like my students to conduct research on more fundamental problems (and some practical applications) to change the world.

[Free tuitions/housing, stipend: $1,500-2,500+α a month for graduate students, and free MacBook Pro/iPad/workstation for research.]

Suggestions for Current and Prospective Students

"If ... research is truly what you want to do, then you must be willing to pay the price... It takes time, patience, stubbornness, years and years of seven-day weeks and 18-hour days, years of poverty-level wages, predictions of doom and failure, rejections of papers and grants, depression and self-doubt... But one persists. One continues because this is what one must to do. This is what you want to do."

By Prof. M. Bissell

"A great reference for deciding whether a Master's degree or Ph.D. degree is right for you and discerning what kind of research group matches you the best is Robert L. Peters, Getting What You Came for: The Smart Student's Guide to Earning a Master's or a Ph.D., Noonday Press, 1996."

By Prof. B. Evans

"A typical student I would recruit would have most of the following traits: (3) A drive to be a leader in our field, i.e., a professor, leading researcher, entrepreneur, industry executive, etc. If you goal is to "get a job" after graduating, I suggest getting an MS."
